Tehsildar Rajpora, others escape unhurt as locals resisted poppy destruction process | KNO

Srinagar, May 17 (KNO): A team of revenue officials headed Tehsildar Rajpora, Rakib Ahmad Ganie had to stop their drive against poppy destruction process after locals showed resistance in Sonasamil village. Eyewitnesses told KNO that as soon as officials reached to the poppy fields in Sonasamil village of Rajpora tehsil in Pulwama district, locals assembled and tried to attack the officials. However officials managed to escape unhurt from the spot. Tehsildar Rajpora Rakib Ahmad Ganie while talking with KNO that a team of revenue officials were about poppy destruction drive in Sonasamil village however the poppy growers collectively came and tried to thrash them. He however said that “we managed to escape from the spot.” In the incident, two mobile phones of Patwari Nisar Ahmad and Junior Assistant Riyaz Ahmad Raina were damaged, he said, adding that “we have compiled the names of all poppy growers and FIR will be launched against them under relevant sections of law.”(KNO)
